The clay should have more nutrients than the organic soil, The problem with
an organic soil is that it holds more moisture and Iris tend to rot in moist
soil plus they are attached by more fungi.

Marge is very right about dividing in early summer- I like to do mine about
two-three weeks after they are done blooming.
