Marilyn,
I wasn't on the bus to Bishop's Close but do remember that their was a
small upheaval. If I remember rightly, the group ended up leaving
quickly!
Susan,
Loved the Quakers - Quilters Story!
Reminded me of being on a daffodil tour in N. Ireland a couple years
back. Someone told one of our hosts that Americans didn't drink much, if
at all. They were concerned about what they were going to offer us. We
did everything we could to discourage that old wives tale! Who starts
these stories !!!!!!!!!
Claire,
Bill will tell you that when I took the job on, I told everyone that if
it wasn't fun, I wasn't doing it. Our members felt free to throw out
suggestions and others expanded on them, the wilder the better.
We don't have a clue what made so many people bring/rent/wear the
costumes. We wrote 3 articles in the Daffodil Journal encouraging such
and made character suggestions and we promoted it every chance we got on
DaffNet (the daffodil list). I thought it would be something the
youngest members would jump at but not the older ones. Wrong. Some of
the most elaborate were worn by older members. One gal just decided to
throw a trunk full of costumes in her trunk and bring them along and then
went and found people who wanted one! The oldest person there, about 92,
made herself up in stuff she drug out of her suitcase.
AND, If I was on a bus that went over a cliff, I'd never go on another!
(And they STILL think we don't drink!)
Alan,
It was lovely watching our members step forward to take on jobs, large
and small, and do such a great job. Bill Lee must speak for himself, but
for me, one of the joys of convention planning over the past four years
was working with him. It got to be spooky how we would think the same
thought and send each other e-mails that overlapped each other.
Bill,
You're right, having people to show off our gardens to, may have been the
best part. I liked seeing people sitting in the wicker chairs on my
porch, completely relaxed and enjoying a beautiful day.
Cheryl,
Consider this an invitation to the National Daylily Convention here in
Cincinnati in 2005. No, Bill and I won't be chairing it! Jerry Williams
is though. Talked to him this afternoon and he's already planning and
budgeting! And he's looking for volunteers. Bill, when does that plane
leave for Aruba?
