We, somewhat inland and in the mountains know that coastal New England has
this lily beetle.
There are Coop/Ext flyers on ID'ing the beetle if we find it (also the
hemlock adelgid). Isn't that depressing - to give up an entire genus for the
one insect. That beetle is also a British pest so there may be some help
searching there.
Here, then, we sit expecting these two pests to come and attack us. I should
be quite depressed, Cheryl, if I find that red lily beetle around here one
day. A gardener has enough to contend with.
I think removing the genus from you garden entirely is a wise idea. I would
do that. We don't have the Japanese beetles until after the 4th of July so
cut all rose buds off after they appear. Somtimes we prune the bushes
severely at that time. Easier than arguing with the JB's.
