Claire
my first experience with vine weevil was when i went through my fuchsia phase
and went to start repotting some of the 200 varieties (stamp collector
syndrome-male thing) and all the plant above ground came away or fell over.
The main damage is caused by the larvae which is a white c shaped grub that
eats the roots of plants, particular favourites being heuchera, primula,
hosta's etc, but its not too fussy, the adult is drab grey beetle that chews
notches out of leaves. There was not a lot of control on the market until
recently (except commercially), when they introduced a soil drench, which
seems sort of effective called 'provado' unsure as to ingredients.
From the discussions i've read on the list it does not compare to JB's!
