Thank God that it does not freeze that late in the year around here, we had a
good day and the weather is going to be warm for a few days-in fact had to
water today-its dry. Plants are starting to grow and its time to do some
weeding.
Blackflies are a pain in June - some years I think I need to get an iron shot
to replace all the iron I lose as they bite my ears. Then the deer flies
come out in July and are pests. The neighbors think I am crazy when I hold
my hand up and every once in a while slap my self -- the deer flies like to
land on the highest point they can to make their bite.
After making a short inspection of the plants around I have a short list of
plants I like in the spring for their foliage appearance:
All the monkshoods
Hosta-more than I can list-but 'Sagae' is a real winner in the spring and so
is 'Sea Fire' with its bright glowing yellow color.
Ligularias -
Phlox paniculata 'Becky Towe' with its rounded gold variegated leaves.
Tradscantia 'Sweet Kate' -- with its bright gold foliage.
Sedums - all look good in the spring.
Astilbe - love the foliage with all the colors in the spring.
Give me nice foliage and I do not need flowers-well that's an exaggeration --
its been a long week and its time for some sleep.
