Re: Common Plant Names - buttercup?


Buttercup is a real problem in names of plants because this simple common 
name means so many different plants to so many people.  This is where genus 
and species names are so important, although I think this thread did start 
with the genus and species, didn't it? 

In the South there are even some daffodils that people refer to as 
"buttercups"! I've heard Eranthis called "buttercups". It means many things 
to many people, and often different things in different places.
