RE: clematis questions

I'll reconsider the placement of the purpurea plena elegans. I did note
the height when I bought it but your post made me think about the fullness
of viticellas. I don't want to actually drown my tuteur in foliage because
I have a choice round river rock on top of it for a finial. Maybe I'll put
the Mrs. N. Thompson there alone.

I looked up your Clematis viticella 'Venosa Violacea' -- it's gorgeous.

Oh! Would I love to see some photos of your combinations of clematis, plus
your types of display supports -- trellis, building, shrub, tuteur, post,
etc. I use birdhouse posts, plain posts, trellises, tuteurs, (my tuteurs
are homemade--what's a good way to anchor a them--I'm thinking of drilling
a diagonal hole through each corner post and driving a dowel through it
into the ground,) and we have a small front yard pavilion that supports
several clematis. I love Mrs. Cholmondeley and Polish Spirit growing there
together.

Do you have 'Andromeda'? I saw it here,
http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=64
and I'm wondering if each bloom is a beautiful as the image shown, and if
this cultivar has any drawbacks. It originated from a seedling of 'General
Sikorski', one of my favorites, but looks nothing like that parent.
(Although one year here the General produced a fascinating double blossom
for that year's debut, looking something like 'Royalty.' But then, one year
we had two (wild) trilliums come up in the woods with four petals each,
four leaves, etc. Must be the air here, or the nibblesome chipmunks.)

Also, if you have a doc file/index of just the names of your clematis,
please send it to me privately ( --warning, this could bring more questions.)
