Early on I lost three "Ernest Markham's" to clematis wilt. I
suspect that variety may be especially susceptible because I
have had no problems with any other variety I have tried.
"Sweet Autumn Clematis" is a weed and crowds out everything
if you let it. It also requires that you prune it back
nearly to the ground each Spring. I planted three because my
wife loves sweet smelling flowers, but she found that their
smell wasn't as delicious as she hoped, so I have ripped
them out.
