Those of you who grow lavender know there's lots of neat things you
can do with the harvested flowers, but I have one to add you might
like to hear about--I hope you consider this on topic. At least close.
My girlfriend discovered this. I made her one of those little pillows
filled with lavender to sit her tea pot on--see, the idea is, it acts
as a trivet and protects the table, while the warmth of the tea pot
makes the lavender fragrance come out. Well, she accidentally tossed
her little tea pot pillow into the dryer one day with her wet laundry
and surprise! An immortal dryer freshener was born! I made one for
myself out of two small linen napkins, filled it with well-druied
lavender blossoms and tried it myself.
Two years later it's still imbuing my laundry with the most heavenly
scent that lingers long after the clothing comes out of the dryer.
Another fascinating thing I found out this year replanting my
lavender--I got sick you see, for about two years and my plants got
overwhelmed with weeds and died. They were mature plants, maybe ten
years old. Well, the little dears had developed *trunks* like ancient
twisted trees. If anyone is into making those miniature tableaux for
model trains or christmas decorations where you need miniature trees,
these things would be amazing. They look like they belong around a
miniature haunted house.
Does anyone know if there's any limit to how long a lavender bush can
live?
Melissa-who's lately discovered she's Zone 6, but forgets if it's a or
b.
