Heat treatment does not deactivate this pathogenic protein, except at temps
above what would be used to treat any meat byproducts like bloodmeal. But
the
chances of any product you are using having mad cow is almost none. And the
chances of getting it from those products if they did have it is almost
none.
Millions ate meat from infected cows in Europe and had multiple exposures
over many years and so far less than 200 cases have been confirmed, so this
is a
low probability infection. With much more fear involved than what is
warranted. West Nile and wood tick spread pathogens would constitute a
hundred fold
greater risk.
