It is obviously the buy the competitor and pretend to run for a few years then
close down so they don't have to come up to their competitors standards. Like
when whoever bought Shepherds but they didn't even pretend they were going to
continue the seed line. Dan and Robert could easily start a new nursery just
like Heronswood because they know it will soon be destroyed. Without the
explorations it will be nothing even if they try to keep it the same. If it
is because of them wanting to grow plants in the region of their customers to
have more adaptable plants then they miss the whole point of nurseries like
that completely. Many plants can be grown in the continental areas that
cannot be propagated there. It is for high risk plants for knowledgeable
people who know the risks and are glad to have the opportunity to try plants
that they might kill. If they don't want that then they can only grow what
everybody else does. I remember meeting one of the founders in Seattle at a
ARGS convention in the 80's before Heronswoon was started who was talking
about starting the nursery. I wish I had talked more

It's awful. As their Webmaster for six years (through the end of 2005),
I feel an affinity with the Heronswood group.
Here's some more articles about it:

It's heart-breaking. I hope that Dan and Robert have the energy to start
anew.
