Lil, sorry about your losses; I think we all experienced some this year. I noted especially your Lathyrus vernus, Spring Vetchling, which has been a favorite of mine for many years. I lost L.v. Katrink Hull to rabbits the first time, so when I replaced it , I caged it. But once I caged it they devoured the species down to the ground – they’d never touched it before. It’s caged now and coming back ok but no flowers yet while Katrink and L v Rosea are both in full bloom right now. I deliberately did a major canopy cutback last fall including taking out a 20yr old Blue Spruce because my garden had gotten too shady. This offers plusses and minuses. Some of the shade plants are asking ‘What the h is going on?’ May have to do some moving. Well its sure good to hear about things going on in the garden. Here in Georgetown, we were the epicentre of that horrible ice storm in December. Lost probably 40% of our tree canopy - looked (and some areas still ) like a war zone! The tree in my front (a linden of some sort) survived. I would have been happy to see it go, but it made it, while my next door neighbors is totally destroyed. I see no signs of my Laythrus vernis. Think its gone and it has always been a favourite. But our local Hort Society plant sale was last night. I get to do most of the pricing so I see everything that comers in - got a double giant Galanthus, Hosta Teddy Bear, H. Chinese sunrise and an anemone "Serenade". Was lots of other goodies, but after a couple of hours I was too tired to go through more things. With this really late cold spring, its almost a miracle we had enough to sell, but our members sure came through. Gotta love fellow plantaholics! Lil Georgetown ON
