All the natives have been beautiful. Hi Nancy, You're right, and I hadn't really thought about it! The natives have been great this year. It's almost like Mother Nature knows what she's doing or something. I'm sorry to hear about all of the plant losses. The only good thing is that it makes room for new ones, but I hate going around in the spring and finding all of those 'holes'. 'Banana Boat' looks interesting! I'll have to try one here, since it's supposed to be hardy in zone 5. I've grown the straight species of Carex siderosticha and have a clump of 'Variegata' from Marge Talt that needs to be moved (it's slowly declining after spreading nicely one year).
