I bought local when we had a good local nursery, then bought from small independent mailorder nurseries until cash flow dried up. :) Then I just bought small cheap things from hardware store parking lots. I wanted to clarify that when I said "Every once in a while they'll have a gem, but the price will be too high to make it worthwhile" about Big Box stores, I didn't mean that I don't think premium plants are worth it. I meant that the Big Box stores seem to artificially inflate the price of specialty plants beyond what they cost in the mailorder market, so I'd rather order from one of them. Not to mention that the likelihood that something is mislabeled is going to be a lot smaller from Plant Delights than from Menards.
