Re 7ft from his drive to your house is pretty tight quarters.
Didn't you say he's 90?(can't find original message) Maybe he won't be
driving much longer.

Re It's understandable that she steps on the plants

I have a philosophy abt things like that. There are so many kinds of plants
out there, you don't need to waste the time, effort, and heartache on
something that's not going to survive there. Get something super durable that
can take a beating. Save the hellebores for other places. I don't mean you
should give up, but sometimes acceptance is a good thing.

Good like with the hydrangea. A little tlc might be all it needs to come back.

He plants a ton of stuff as well, so I think it's just that the plants are
inconvenient.

Their driveway comes up right alongside the house and they don't park in the
garage, so they don't have enough room to open their doors all of the way.
Previous residents never had problems, but they're much older and need the
extra room. He parks with the right wheels of his van in the grass on the
side of the driveway so he can open his door as far as it can go, but it his
wife now has a harder time getting out on the other side. They have about
18-24" of space before it becomes our property, then another 5' or so until
it reaches our house. It's understandable that she steps on the plants on
our side of the property line, although I wish they had a different solution.

However, that only explains some of the plants. Wilting hellebores and
declining hosta against the foundation aren't caused by foot traffic.

I am *NOT* saying that he's doing anything to them (hello Urbana neighbors on
this list!). But I am perplexed by the whole thing. Maybe a camera is the
way to go.

On the bright side, I pulled out my thought-to-be-dead Hydrangea serrata
'Midoriboshi-Temari' this morning and was about to toss it when I noticed a
tiny sprig of green sprouting at the base. I stuck it in some dirt and will
pot it up tonight to baby it until fall.
