Hi Kitty, Do you have a tree that looks like that nearby? I had a lovely (and large) Japanese Maple that grew volunteers very easily and they did come true. I choose some to grow on in a pot to about 3 feet then replanted them in the yard. Alas, the original tree succumbed in an ice storm. Sorry about the long story. My opinion: It could be! This may seem like a stupid question but could this be a seedling of Japanese Maple? I always assumed if there were any seedlings they would germinate anywhere near true.
