Cold frames can get very hot and need to be vented. If your frame is in the
sun for even a short amount of time the temperature can soar to over 100. I
would recommend an automatic vent and a minimum/maximum thermometer. Also
think about shading the frame and gradually removing the shade and exposing
the plants to more sun. I usually plan on about 5 days to complete this
process, but some plants are in the frame longer simply because I don't get
to them.
I've set plants deeper when they get leggy; some plants are tough and can
take it, others ? maybe that is what killed them. The consensus here is
that it promotes stem rot.
