This year I tried Ann Lovejoy's recommendation (she's an author of many
books--Further Along the Garden Path is a fav of mine). One of her favorite
feeds is comprised of 2 parts alfalfa pellets, 1 part composted manure and 1
part compost. She feels that the manure used in conjunction with the
alfalfa works better than if used alone (synergistic). This combo also
tends to improve the soil's condition.
Well I mixed up numerous batches and fed it to most of my gardens. I didn't
do my roses, though, just forgot. Everything looks wonderful this year but
am not sure whether it is due to the dietary supplements or just the
weather.
Until this year, I have not fed my gardens--just generous handfuls of
compost at planting or transplanting time. Will be interesting to compare
results.
Don't know about you, but I am sick of the rain here in PA. Looks like it
will be Thursday before we see the sun. Feels like when I lived in Olympia,
WA.
