My theory is: if it doesn't move out of the way
it gets something grown through it! There are
so many wonderful vines out there! The only
exceptions are things with such pretty foliage I
don't want to obscure it in any way.

Susan, I think that's an excellent combination.
I had an
Abeliophyllum for one season but it was a
casualty of a construction
project -- my husband, a builder but not a
gardener, unknowingly
dumped a load of lumber on it. Of course I plan
to replace it and
perhaps surround it with flags. Now I think
growing a Clematis
through it would also be a Good Thing.
