It is silly, isn't it?  I did this years ago one fall, with some
beautiful lavendar mums, but didn't get around to digging them up.  So
next spring, I had enormous clumps of these mums that I divided, put in
pots, etc. and they bloomed their heads off in the Fall -- gorgeous. 
The next year, I had to give a lot away.  Now I plant mums in the Spring
and there they are, dressing up the Fall season like mad. Not low
maintenance plants though...

Now that Matt has brought up mums -- I've been looking for a variety
that I saw growing in Boulder, CO -- came up every year with NO care,
bloomed in July/August, gold-bronze doubled daisy flowers with shorter
petals in the center, about 30 inches tall, healthy deep green foliage,
no staking.  Any ideas as to name?  Yeah, I know things behave
differently in those cool mountain climates, but I'd still like to try
it here...
