A very interesting article in the June 98 Fine Gardening magazine
"Pruning Perennials in Midseason". Well worth the read. Fortunately for me,
(or maybe not), the deer have pruned all of my cone flowers, daisies,
lunaria, phylox, etc., etc., in my west garden. I just hope they get their
fill of salad and greens in time to let them bloom in the fall. What a pain.
