Shade flowering vine

I'm new to the list, as I see quite a few others are.  Zone 9, an hour
from of San Francisco, is my new home (New York was previously).  This
is a wonderful area for growing many things, though I'm trying to
educate myself with regards to drought tolerant varieties as California
is really a desert in summer.  

I'm looking for a flowering vine that can handle a fair amount of shade
and relatively alkaline soil, as that's what my garden has.  I've not
been at this gardening in a serious way until this past year.  I've got
a LOT to learn and am loving the process.  If anyone has ideas on
suitable vines let me hear 'em, I'd be very appreciative.
