Mystery plant

Here's one for the group - part of a message from my aunt, saying someone
gave her some bulbs and she forgets what they are now. She says:

"I think it begins with an H, they grow to be quite tall and should be
planted on the back row of a garden, there are red blossoms and the
bulbs are very "gnarly" looking. Quite large with two or three shoots
coming from each bulb. They look more like roots than my idea of a
bulb."

What do you think?

Honorine Jobert hasn't even showed her face.
