Hi all,
The other variety was Dusseldorf Pride which is slightly larger than
the standard variety.
I was going to explain the term Irishman's cuttings, but a combination
of Digest timing and time zones means someone else beat me to it
clearly and succinctly, so nothing further to add.
The early clematis are in flower here now, with most other things
(hardy geraniums, phlox paniculata, campanula) greening up and getting
ready to form buds. We had a mild winter so my Alstromelias stayed
green and are gaining height. They do exceptionally well in my garden
and are an exotic (by our standards) alternative to liliies and I
don't think you get the same problem with pollen marks on clothes.
I did strike me that in an earlier thread on romantic plantings many
people seemed to be describing typical traditional British herbaceous
border plants. I don't recognise a lot of the plants discussed here,
maybe because common names differ across the Atlantic, but find it
strange to hear of people having problems with our common garden
flowers, while complaining that plants we can only consider as annuals
or tender hot house plants have run amok in their gardens.
Right then, off to plant some more Lewisia and Phlox paniculata
Fujiyama.
Karen in Cheshire, hoping the jasmine will sprout some leaves soon.
