I agree with using a knife. My *retentive* brother will only divide his
hosta ONE day a year - essentially *you miss it, too bad*. This year I
made it over and got three lovely LARGE *blue* types. I cut those three
lovelies into 14 separate plants with a very sharp knife. I tried the
shovel too, even sharpened it before hand, and the knife was the only
thing that worked!
They've been in the ground only 5 days now and look like they've lived
there for years.
