And this, for those who are newer gardeners, is because of transpiration. I
found this fascinating and so SENSIBLE when I finally read this a few years
ago. When you move a plant and it is uprooted, it has no where to get it's
water from. And a plant is always losing moisture through its leaves. So
covering the plant, protecting it from the sun will help it cope until it
has rooted again.
This also works for newly transplanted plants/seedlings, or especially
during a hot spell to a new plant.
This is Susan's paraphrased version as I am not at all scientific. Mixing
fertilizer is about as "scientific" as I get... If someone has can explain
it better, please do!

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
