Question on Hosta's and Unwanted Pets

Is it to late to transplant Hosta's? We
have quite a few that need to be
thinned. We would like to dig the
Hostas up - transplant some and give
some away to friends? We live in
southwestern Ohio - Dayton area.

I would like to sneak another question
in here. What can I do to stop cats
from using the flower beds as a litter
box? We have physically gotten rid of
the cats. Problem is we live in the
country at the end of a road and people
from town think this is a good place to
drop off there unwanted pets. We have
had dogs - litters of puppies and scads
of cats/kittens dropped off. I guess
the town folks think one of us farmers
will take pity on there pet and adopt
it. They just do not think about the
damage and problems they cause. We have
had dogs chase/even kill our livestock.
