Susan, Rudbeckia is very easy to germinate. Cover lightly and place on
bottom heat at 70 for quick germination. Since you have zero results, it
may be that your seed is not viable. Perhaps the plant you so admire is a
sterile hybrid or the seed may have died due to improper storage. Try a
test batch of 10 seeds on a damp paper towel wrapped in handiwrap at room
temp and see if any of the seeds germinate that way.

Does anyone know, generally speaking, how to germinate/grow these from seed
ON PURPOSE?! I have them seed around where they want, but last year a
neighbor had some volunteers that were particularly dark in color and
another that was double. I marked them and saved seed, and have tried to
germinate them indoors so that I can keep track of them. No success.
Any help is appreciated!

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
