Hi Dot,
Angel's Trumpets are one of my favorites. They used to all be classified
into the genus Datura, but have now been divided into 2 genera, Datura and
Brugmansia. In a nutshell, here are the differences.
Datura - sprawling shrubby annuals, outward facing flowers, can be potted
but best grown in the ground. Most common colors are white, purple and
light yellow. The most common species are Datura meteloides, D. metel, and
less commonly, D. stramonium (also known as Jimson weed).
Brugmansia - tender, woody perennials, which may become tall, and almost
tree-like. The flowers are more downward-facing. Colors come in pink,
yellow, and white. In frost-free areas, these can be planted in the
ground, but in temperature regions, they are usually potted and brought
indoors for the winter (I keep mine dormant in a cool basement.).
There is a good brugmansia site at:

All parts of plants in both genera are very poisonous.

Great Pan himself low-whispering through the reeds,
Be thankful, thou; for if unholy deeds
Ravage the world, tranquility is here!"
