I just talked to a environmental manager at my company (we are a chemical
company) and he suggested just letting the gas evaporate. If it was a
small amount (less than one gallon) and if the spot was in the sun, it
should evaporate safely over time. If the gas saturated the soil and went
deep, you might want to dig up the area and spread the soil out in a sunny
area onto a tarp.
Either way, he said it would evaporate on its own.
And next time use Round-Up.
