I am in zone 6, Missouri. I grow both columbine and foxgloves. I always
allow some of mine to go to seed. When the seeds ripen I take them off and
spread them around where ever I want them to grow. The foxglove usually
germinate and come up in the fall of the same year, they last and stay green
throughout the winter and bloom the following spring. (Mine are blooming
now.) The columbine usually don't come up until the following spring as they
need a period of cold in order to germinate. However, they do come up in the
spring and usually bloom that same year. They don't usually last all summer
as you are right about the heat and humidity but are so beautiful while they
are here. I grew some Nora Barlow doubles, some Chocolate Soldier and some
Irish Elegance this spring. Good growing,
Jean in South east Missouri
