Okay - the guy at Horticulture Magazine called me back. The name of the
source books that they refer to are as follows:

Anderson Horticulture Libraries Source List of Plants & Seeds
Published by the University of Minnesota
I hope this helps anyone in their pursuit to find that unusual or special
