Pottsey-
I've got a short story about an unknown hydragea that you might enjoy. I
live in SE Texas and have tried various hydrangea's on/off for the past 3
years....probably a total of 5 different ones with no success. Last year I
had the blue one bloom then die on me.
My grandmother died in 1974.....my cousin and I go on an antique trip every
fall.....our way to stay in touch with our different life styles. When she
came by she had a 3 gal pot in hand and inside this pot was my grandmother's
hydrangea. Her dad had dug it up 25 years ago and recently moved to a new
house and had no place to keep it (no shade at all) so he gave it to her, his
eldest daughter. Well she was struggling to keep it alive so she pasted it
on to me. When she did I explained to her that I hadn't had much luck with
hydrangeas and had given up on them. Well she left it next to my shade
garden and told me to give it a whorl.
I've never touched it....never moved it at all, just give it an occasional
drink of water. Well today I have 5 pink blooms on a fairly small plant,
each about 5" in diameter.......I simply cannot believe it. Maybe my
grandmother has been tending to her hydrangea in my garden.....you think?
