Donna -
I can't remember where I heard about this little trick wether it was a PBS
thing or what.....but I put equal parts of epson salt and sugar into a jar.
When transplanting annuals or perennials I put I nice size pinch into the
botton of the whole and stir a little (the bottom of the hole). You can sure
see a different when you put this little pinch into the hole. The plants
seem to really respond in a positive way. Not sure exactly what this mixture
supplies but I know that epson salt provides magnesium and I think the sugar
is just a little boost.
One other little thing I have learned....this one came from my mom-n-law.
She told me that whenever you have a plant that is looking a little sad that
you can put a tablespoon of brown sugar in a qt of warm water and douch the
plant with it.....she said sometimes the plant will bounce right back. She
said you may temporarily have a few ants on the plant but they will soon
depart for some other food in the garden.

Also, FYI - when you are noticing a plant having a little crown rot maybe due
to heavy rains you can sprinkle cinnamon on top of it and it to will help.
