Re: Fragrance in the Garden

Debbie mentions the oriental lilies for fragrance and I have to
agree-they are absolutely wonderful, especially on warm evenings. I
have planted a cutting garden on the north side of my house - this is
it's 2nd year. Last summer I had a house guest and she stayed in the
bedroom which has a window overlooking this garden. She was here for my
daughters wedding and I had planted oriental lilies and many
Casablanca's for the wedding. She was thrilled, in the evening, at the
fragrances wafting into the guest bedroom off the garden. Being a
cutting garden, I cut all the lily flowers off for the wedding and the
next night she was so disapointed..we had to give her a bouquet to bring
into the guest bedroom.
I plan on doing more for this bedrooms view, including putting up a
lattice screen to block off the view of the house next door from the
window and then cover the lattice with climbers.
I have also planted fragrant iris in this garden for next year and can't
wait for that bloom!
