Nan,
Angelonia isa native of northern South America and is available in blue,
pink, and white. Flowers are on a spike, it is related to digitalis and
snaps. I think it closely resembles alonsias. (sp)
It's become very popular here in the Midwest because it can take a great deal
of heat. The blue flowering varieties seem to be the more vigorous. The
eradication of viruses from older stock varieties has made the plants a lot
more vigorous.
I first grew angelonia in the early 1980's getting plants from either
Stallings or another mailorder place in southern California. I really like
them. I am suprised that it took awhile for them to catch on.
I visited Dr. Alan Armitage last summer at the University of Georgia and he
was trialing many varieties of angelonia.
