Yes, Paul, we lose them too. The best way to keep one alive is to plant it
in grit and/or sand, a small amount of something humusy. It most be on a
slope and have drainage. My best successes are plants growing nearly in the
driveway which is a gravel based area probably many feet down. The Spanish
lavender is not hard in the house, needs sun, humidity is not so important.
I have not tried a cold frame with these. A cold frame up along side a
foundation wall will keep a lot plants otherwise not hardy even in the open
frames. All the lavenders are lovely to run you hands through while out
there weeding. There is a lavender list now so there must be a bunch of
fanciers.
