Re: seed import permits

Hello Bob,
You just touched on one aspect to all this that is mostly ignored. I was
a government employee for 27 years so have a bit of insight. Most of what is
going on now is there to reassure the general public and the ones big enough
to make enough noise to get noticed (that Gov.. feels that have to respond
to) Reality is usually a horse of a different color. While most foreign
countries take customs seriously, have a minimum of personnel to do the job
(perhaps even knowledgeable of the rules and regulations) the US customs is
not taken seriously by our own government and those who provide the funds to
run the outfit. They are seriously understaffed, can not possibly do the job
as all the publicity would indicate... probably never will be. Congress and
house of Reps always talk big, act like they are doing something, then do
not provide the funding to actually make it work. Just words on paper to
make you feel like something is being done.
This country has been hit hard where it has not been hit in a long time.
There will be an adjustment period to go through. The future remains to be
seen on just what will, and will not, take place in reality. Much depends up
whether we get hit again, where and how hard. Use your heads and be
attentive. Right now mostly emotions are driving the forces that be.....
