>>Is anybody growing Aspidistra elatior outside in the ground year
around north of USDA zone 8 on the east coast or central part of the
US? PNW doesn't count:-) (you guys can grow anything).
>>If you are...what kind of situation, soil and exposure and where???
How does it fare in winter?
I have one of the aspidistras 30 miles south of Raleigh, which is way warmer
than where you are. I found it in a bag of garden trash on the side of the
road; it had been growing in pure clay. Now it's in good soil (a plus)
under a pecan tree (a clear minus). It lingers. It gets no care at all.
The stand under the walnut tree is almost gone, but the dog may have had a
paw in that.
The spot under the tree is the deepest shade I have, and it may not be quite
deep enough.
kt
USDA zone 7b? a? whichever one is immediately north (by about 400 yards) of
zone 8, central NC.
