RE: special mint/now water celery

Claire and all,
Well you guys finally hit on a subject I know, water plants :)

Your water celery is Oenanthe javanica 'Flamingo' if it is the
variegated form. Nice low plant (6 inches)with the colors more
pronounced in the spring and fall. Mid summer with the heat here, they
fade but do have little white blooms then. Water depth moist soil to 2
inches. Nice plant, doesn't take over the earth quickly. It is a
creeping spreader, nice border plant for a moist area for a sun to part
shade area. Chris has a picture on his site....

Another water celery is Oenanthe sarmentosa. This one is not variegated
at all. This one will take over the earth if you let it. It spreads by
runners, getting at least 12 inches tall. For pond people, we use it in
a contained area of a filtration system, bare root, it will filter the
water nicely. If it escapes, you will be fighting it forever, as
anywhere it touches ground, it will root.

Both are hardy zone 5-11. My suggestion for the perennial gardener... if
you don't see the pink variegation, don't buy it!
