My most prolific asiatic is Connecticut King. Beautiful rich yellow color!. I've had the same exeperience as you with Orientals. So pretty but not very sturdy. My martagons are the species and Mrs Backhouse. And I love any trumpet! I've also enjoyed some of the LA hybrids - Asiatics crossed with Lilium longiflorum (Easter Lily). Even tiger lilies, got a little colony of them. I tired a modonna once. It struggled and eventually died out in a few years.

I love lilies ! Asiatics (many of which seem to multiply like bunnies for me and provide good height and color in june), orienpets which are dependable,long-lived, and fragrant, orientals (most of which seem relatively shorter lived for me, but again have marvelous fragrances), lilium rubrum which is the latest blooming for me; trumpets (which again have great fragrance)... have just one variety of martagons which seem to do well in a relatively shady area...and a few misc others... I've never tried madonna lilies - have read they should be planted mid-summer.Nor have I tried asiapets - last I checked, they still seemed a little pricyBeth z5 northern Michigan-----Original Message----- From: KittySent: Sunday, November 07, 2010 6:24 PM To: perennials@hort.net Subject: bulbsFrom the group description, I see that we are purely a perennial discussiongroup. Well, bulbs fall into that category, so... I just dug up a clump of orienpets. I had planted one nice-sized Haley's Comet (very similar to Scheherazade) there about 6 or 7 yrs ago. What I came up with today were 2 big bulbs each about the size of a largegrapefruit. Also 2 slightly smaller ones and then one that's about the size a seller would send if you'd ordered it, probably 16 cm. This was my firstorienpet, originally purchased about I'd guess 10 or 12 years ago. It has been very dependable and prolific, much more so than other orienpets I've purchased since then. Is anyone else here much into bulbs?
