re: Dahlia Seeds

In the past I bought seeds, so I know they were fertile and they were very
easy to start in flats, nearly 100% and no special treatment. This is the
first year that I gathered seeds from my plants. We will see how they turn
out next year. I expect a good result. The seeds are easy to gather.
When a pollinated flower dies down and is all dried up, I pluck the flower,
take it inside and dismantle it on a paper plate. In between the pedals
are the seeds. There might be about 30 per flower depending on how well
pollinated it was. We have plenty of bees, etc. The seeds are black or
dark brown, flat and about a quarter of an inch or more long (not very
wide). Their size makes them easy to see and handle. They are solid with
one end often being more swollen. This makes is easy to distinguish them
from the light translucent pedals of the flower itself

Someone posted a message saying that they start some dahlias from seeds.
How can I tell what the seeds look like on the plant? Will the hybrids
come true from these seeds? How do you harvest them? Is this method as
reliable as the tuber division method of propagation?
