You are hitting a culture clash here. Some of us DO NOT OWN a Microsoft
machine, so what you see as enhancements, we see as a meaningless string
of garbage letters and numbers. Those of us who comply to simple
Internet mail protocols (without attachments, enhancements, or rich
text) will never trouble you with nonsense binary noise. You may not
like our English (or whichever human language we write in), but you
won't receive Microsoft-only computer gibberish.

It is best, when speaking to a wide audience, to take the lowest common
denominator approach rather than confusing or insulting a part of your
audience. While I agree that the "d" key is best used in cases where
someone sends something you do not wish to receive, I want to explain
why any mail containing embedded colour or font information is offensive
and possibly destructive to those who do not use MS Exchange to read
their mail. MS Exchange is a proprietary format -- and if every format
were proprietary, we would not be able to have this list today.

I can't think of much going on with perennials other than that some of
them got hit back by our first freeze (marginally below 32F) Saturday
evening. My cannas are tremendous indicator plants -- they wait until
exactly 32 F and then turn a grisly bronzed brown and begin to take on
the appearance of rotting bananas, oozing their sap as they go.
