Laura:
Since you are addressing this issue let me offer a few clarifications.

1. It was the List Owner who said: "Mail should be sent in the simplest
format,
 > devoid of text colorations and images to keep messages accessible to
 > the widest possible audience." Since he owns the list, he makes the
rules, just like you make your rules in your house.

2. Even if this rule were not established by the list owner, I feel that
a message to the list should reach the widest possible audience and that
means all the subscribers. That can only be achieved by using the
simplest common denominator to make it accessible to all. It's like a
newspaper, if you subscribe you should be able to read it. That is the
purpose of standards in all areas of our lives including communications.

3. This is a 'perennials' discussion list and not a place to use color
font and images that exclude those who don't have the equipment but
still want to participate and enjoy the conversations. I happen to have
a brand new computer system with all the fancy bells and whistles, but
what about all the people on the list who don't have it. Do I have to
show off my fancy font and eliminate maybe half of my potential
audience. That is not fair, in my opinion, and it has nothing to do
with 'live and let live.' When one excludes somebody from a list to
which they subscribed, it is exactly the opposite

4. Let's say, that the French, Spanish or Italian members of this group
would start writing to the list in their native language and eliminate
you, me, and the others who don't know these languages. That would
probably drive me and perhaps you to write a note, saying 'why am I
being excluded?' So, as I see it, we need to agree to a number of
principles or limitations which allow all of us to participate in this
form of communication. The owner's rules do work to our ultimate
advantage, because they are giving us ALL the ability to communicate.
Do you see the point I am trying to make?

Enough said, I'll shut up now.

Alex
