Sorry everybody
The reason I chose these perennials is because: 
1. I think they are beautiful plants
2. Most are quite adaptable and do well in a variety of microclimates and
partial shade to shade conditions in my zone.  (zone 7, high mountains of
Southern California.) (Many, Many perennials do not do well here due to lack
of full sun,  being eaten by varmints and slugs, alternating warm and freezing
periods during winter, fairly short growing season (appx 5 mo.) and high
summer temperatures, ie, up to 102 last summer)
3. Showy blooms
