RE: Delphs

Which tall campanulas do well in the heat/humidity?

also -- I have had terrible luck getting larkspur to sprout. any ideas? I
know they should be direct sowed in the fall (now?) or very early spring.
I've done it several years running, to no avail.

I may try buying plants this spring so I have fresh seed.

Since everyone's talking about delphiniums, let me tell you that I gave up
trying. Instead, I've substituted campanulas. Now, they don't grow as
tall, but they still provide that wonderful linear purple that looks so
good in the early summer. Cut the spent stalks down and you'll get a
rebloom as a bonus! Another plant that is a good sub is the annual
larkspur, but it is also a little "iffy" here in zone 6a. If the weather
gets too warm too fast, these will set seed overnight it seems and go
dormant. However, they are far less finicky than the delphs.
