Subject: chicken droppings?

There is a place near my home that offers chicken droppings for sale by the
bushel. I have VERY alkaline clay soil . . would chicken droppings help or
hurt my plants??<<

Pat,
Chicken droppings are a great soil amendment, as long as they are composted
first. They are uric acid, a form of nitrogenous waste. So they are acidic,
and high in nitrogen (more nitrogen than cow manure). If you put fresh
manures on your plants it can "burn" them, so do compost it first. It would
be great if you would mix the droppings with dried leaves in the compost pile,
then use the finished product to amend your soil or topdress in the spring.
