Germinating Arisaema sp.

Pat:
To add to the good advice that Don gave about germinating Arisaema, you
can also simply keep the baggie at room temperature until germination.
Almost all members of the genus are easy, warm germinators and while the
cold treatment won't harm them, it is not necessary. In each case, the
seeds are germinating when they are exposed to warm. Depending on the
species you have, germination can occur anywhere from about 7 days
onwards. Instead of sphaghnum you can also use just barely moist
vermiculite, which makes it really easy to see when the seeds germinate.
Just pop them out of the baggie and pot them up. Easy as pie. While the
seeds might be Arisaema triphyllum, wouldn't you be lucky if they were
A. sikokianum???

Unfortunately you will be waiting for a while to find out. Seed to
spathe maturity is around 4-5 years. But it is worth it!
