I would be very surprised if Phlox divaricata turned out to be particularly
sensitive to soil pH. See it growing in too many places. I transfer divisions from
garden to potting medium all the time and there is certainly a world of difference
between the two. No problems here and occasionally one or two will end up in a pot
in the display area for three years. If it were it would slowly starve to death
from not being able to take up nutrients. Probably take a couple of years for it
to happen if you began with a good healthy plant.
Put it on your list for next year and try it one more time, Susan. We all have
a problem on occasion with a plant everyone else says is no problem whatsoever.
