Hi Susan,

I do understand your jealousy, English gardeners are undoubtedly on the very
top. However, your situation is not bad either... There are a whole lot of
horticulturists and breeders in the US working with great enthusiasm... I
wish we had so many people interested in and dealing with perennial growing.
Some of the American mail order nurseries carry a huge diversity of
perennials. Last year I worked for one of the smaller ones - Forestfarm - in
OR. They carry a wide range from the latest tissue cultured Pulmonarias or
Hostas through tons of interesting plants imported from dutch companies to
the finest tree peonies straight from China... Alright, they do not have
japanese Hepaticas. (they grow the American species). This is just one of
the numerous nursuries available online... there might be a list of them
somewhere I do not know about.
I would keep on reading the English magazines. Lots of good ideas.
